This is Page where I give my views to the lastest technologies on Internet! Some Interesting Stuff and Lots more all related to Internet!
Warning: This is clearly not rocket science and I’m positive that thousands of people have already thought of this and are already doing it. It just didn’t occur to me until now.
The problem: I like mail applications better than web-based mail. I am especially not fond of the way Google’s threads work. I understand that this format works for some people… it just feels weird to me though. BUT… a Gmail account is great to have because of its free storage, spam filtering, separation from my own domain, and search capabilities. So very conveniently, Google enabled POP access to Gmail accounts several months ago. That’s great, except I don’t like POP either. It’s fine for people who only use one computer, but the second you begin using a multiple machines, it’s a synching nightmare.
Enter IMAP e-mail. With Dreamhost’s IMAP e-mail setup, I can maintain an unlimited number of e-mail accounts with over 20 gigs of storage space and keep it all automatically synched between as many computers as I want. Awesome.
The only problem is that while Gmail supports retrieving of e-mail via POP, they don’t via IMAP. So what can I do if I want to continue using my Gmail address for filling out forms on the web and benefit from its excellent spam/phishing filters? Easy! Set it to automatically forward to a special IMAP account! Since Gmail’s auto-forwarding feature leaves headers for the most part intact, I can now receive fully synched, fully intact copies of all my Gmail messages to any computer I happen to be on. Here’s how:
Set up a new IMAP mailbox with your mail provider. The address could be “abcdefg@yourdomain.com”… doesn’t matter. It’s not public-facing.
Set your incoming mail server to its normal settings.
Set your outgoing mail server to “smtp.gmail.com”, check “Use SSL”, and use port 465.
Go to Gmail’s POP/Forwarding settings panel.
Turn on forwarding and forward to the special address you’ve set up.
Set Gmail to archive your mail after forwarding.
That’s it. You’re done. Gmail over IMAP. That such an obvious solution has escaped me for this long is evidence of possible senility. Excuse me while I go stir my fiber drink.
Adobe Goes to Web
Adobe Systems Inc. is working to deliver all of its software via the Web as a service rather than a packaged product, but the transition to earn money from subscriptions or advertising could take a decade.
Adobe, a leading maker of graphic and Web design software, earns most of its money through the sales of packaged software that runs locally on a computer's hard drive but it has started offering some of its applications online as service.
Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Adobe Chief Executive Bruce Chizen said running software on the desktop is still optimal for most of its customers, but that will change over time.
"The desktop is a powerful, powerful machine in which to run applications. Broadband, as quick as it gets, is still going to have some limitations in the short term," said Chizen in a question-and-answer session on stage at the conference.
Chizen answered a question about whether a complete shift to Web delivery would take five or 10 years and he indicated it would be closer to a decade.
Like many traditional software makers including Microsoft Corp., Adobe must fend off rivals delivering competing applications over the Web and it also needs to adopt a new business model after years of selling software in boxes.
Chizen expects professional customers of products like Acrobat document-sharing or Photoshop for editing images would opt to pay for subscriptions versus facing a steady stream of advertising to use tools critical to their jobs.
Adobe has started introducing bare-bones versions of its design tools for free including Photoshop Express, which lets users edit photos online. It also has a free video editing tool called Premiere Express.
These products are designed to appeal to a younger generation of Internet users for whom paying $400 for a packaged software product is a thing of the past, Adobe officials have said.
My Take: This is Good for the Internet. All of these will lead to Spreading of Open Source. Looking forward for the same.

iGoogle
The company recently started its information-collecting mission by launching iGoogle, which can be personalised to feature news feeds and local weather. It remembers if a registered user has searched for a particular site such as a cinema in the past, and automatically places that site at the top of search lists.
Chief executive Eric Schmidt said,“The goal is to enable Google users to be able to ask the question such as, ‘What shall I do tomorrow?’ and ‘What job shall I take?’ We cannot even answer the most basic questions because we don’t know enough about you. That is the most important aspect of Google’s expansion.”
The company stresses that its personalisation services are optional at the moment. But concerns have been raised about privacy because of the information Google collects on users. It agreed to discard information about the Internet searches made after two years, following pressure from privacy activists. Google software engineer Sepandar Kamvar said, “The key thing is to get the best search results for our users. We cannot do that if we ignore the user doing the searching.
Sony DCR-DVD 105
Most of the reviews that I read for this product were positive and in CNET.com, the average user rating for this product was 7, which is not bad. What ’s consistent among all the reviews was the great video, audio quality and its 20x optical zoom. The only problems I read about it were transferring the video and editing the video in the PC. It doesn’t have a Firewire or USB port coz all files are saved into the DVD and customers complain about the software provided which is Nero Express 6.
I Google searched about this and found suggestions on how to transfer and edit the video files but they didn’t provide a clear solution to it. So what I did was make a short recording using the camcorder, finalized the disc and loaded it into my PC. I looked for the VOB file and copied it into the PC and converted it into a WMV file using WinAVI Video Converter. Then I edited the WMV file using Ulead Video Studio 10.
Transferring files to PC:
1. Load finalized disc into CD-ROM
2. Browse disc and search for VOB or JPEG files
3. Copy & paste to any folder in your hard drive
(VOB files can be opened using Cyberlink PowerDVD or any DVD playing program)
Editing video files in your PC:
You’ll need:
1. video converter
2. video editing software
Steps:
1. Load finalized disc into CD-ROM.
2. Browse through the disc and look for the VOB file/s.
3. Using a video converter, convert the VOB file to AVI, MPEG or WMV file.
4. Edit the file (AVI, MPEG or WMV) using the video editing software.
There are video converters and video editing software that you can download for free. All you have to do is do a search in Google. Another option is todownload the trial version of commercial products. If you’re looking for the Picture Perfect software, leave a comment or contact me and I’ll tell you where you could get it.
Google lets users create My Maps
The idea is to let users pinpoint specific landmarks and attach associated pictures to them. For example, a family could chart their cross-country trip on Google Maps and post an image of each location. Users can choose whether to make their maps public or private.
Maps can be customized by specifying the scale of the map, the order the landmarks appear in the sidebar, and even the design of the landmark icons on the map. Every user-created map can be toggled between map and satellite views.
Other map sites, including Yahoo Maps, have offered similar functionality and until now, was their main feature that differentiated them from Google Maps.
In the past, Google has customized its online maps service by creating specialized maps for events like the 2006 election and the World Cup. My Maps is effectively the same thing, bringing the customization feature to individual users for the first time.
The first official announcement came from Google's Frank Taylor at the official blog of the similar Google Earth service. He wrote, "The end result of this new update is that Google Maps and Google Earth are coming closer together in many respects."
MINIX 3
What Is MINIX 3?
This new OS is extremely small, with the part that runs in kernel mode under 4000 lines of executable code. The parts that run in user mode are divided into small modules, well insulated from one another. For example, each device driver runs as a separate user-mode process so a bug in a driver (by far the biggest source of bugs in any operating system), cannot bring down the entire OS. In fact, most of the time when a driver crashes it is automatically replaced without requiring any user intervention, without requiring rebooting, and without affecting running programs. These features, the tiny amount of kernel code, and other aspects greatly enhance system reliability.
- Applications where very high reliability is required
- Single-chip, small-RAM, low-power, $100 laptops for Third-World children
- Embedded systems (e.g., cameras, DVD recorders, cell phones)
- Applications where the GPL is too restrictive (MINIX 3 uses a BSD-type license)
- Education (e.g., operating systems courses at universities)

Google - Some New Links
Sure, why not. How secret could this stuff be? Well it’s not earth shattering but it is different and hopefully interesting to those who read my articles. So here are some Google pages to stop by at:
Google has a newsletter called Google Friends Newsletter. You can sign up for free issues sent right to your email account if you wish. Google Friends Newsletter
They also have listed archives of their previous newsletters. And my friend was correct. I was not aware that Google produced a newsletter.
Have a domain parked somewhere on the Internet? You can have Google Ads displayed while the page is sitting idle. This is kind of a unique offering, also one that I was not aware of. Google Domain.
One of the features of Google Search is that it offers stock information right from the search engine, by merely typing in the stock symbol. This link explains how. Get Google Stock Quotes I don’t think the second one is working. :-(
And last but not least, everything you really wanted to know about Google but was afraid to ask. Google Sets. If you see a use for this, congratulations. Maybe you can leave me a comment and explain it to me. :-)
No offense to anyone, but I didn’t bookmark any of these links, but I did sign up for the Google newsletter.

This is almost certainly a fake, as Google Blogoscoped reports. Erickson then posted a second video to prove the authenticity and saying that Google had increased the login requirements “substantially”. A+ for effort and originality. Both videos are below.
Unlimited E-Mail Addresses With Gmail
Unlimited E-Mail Addresses With Gmail
The long and short of the article is that you can add a plus sign (+) after your e-mail address, and anything after the plus sign, and the mail will still reach you. This is because when delivering mails, Gmail ignores the plus sign and everything after it.
E.g. if your e-mail address is myaddress@gmail.com, mails that are sent to myaddress+mailinglists@gmail.com, myaddress+work@gmail.com, etc, will still reach you.
The article describes a few good practical uses for such a feature.
To add on, Gmail ignores dots (.) in e-mail addresses as well. E.g. if your address is my.address@gmail.com, basically, it is also equivalent to myaddress@gmail.com, my.add.res.s@gmail.com, etc. This is explained in https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=%67mail&hl=en&answer=10313.
Do keep in mind two things though:
1. Even though Gmail ignores the dots, you cannot have two successive dots; that would result in an invalid address. (E.g. my..address@gmail.com)
2. Hypens (-) and underscores (_) cannot be used in Gmail addresses.
GMail Rocks
More real world examples:
Find out who is spamming you: Be sure to use plus-addressing for every form you fill out online and give each site a different plus address.
Example: You could use
pinkyrocks+nytimes@gmail.com for nytimes.com
pinkyrocks+freestuff@gmail.com for freestuff.com
Then you can tell which site has given your e-mail address to spammers, and automatically send them to the trash.
Automatically label your incoming mail: I've talked about that above.
Archive your mail: If you receive periodic updates about your bank account balance or are subscribed to a lot of mailing lists that you don't check often, then you can send that sort of mail to the archives and bypass your Inbox.
Example: For the mailing list, you could give pinkyrocks+mailinglist1@gmail.com as your address, and assign a filter that will archive mail to that address automatically. Then you can just check in once in a while on the archive if you want to catch up.
